"Once again, I wish to thank you for providing, not only the mechanics, but the enthusiasm (which was contagious) necessary for successful collaborative divorce.  It was informative and, at the same time, entertaining.
 
On Friday, I told you that Pat Farrell and I had a contested hearing scheduled for today where each side had filed motions for exclusive possession of the famliy residence and all the attendant issues resulting from that -- temporary parenting issues, financial, etc.  I also told you Pat and I believed this case ripe for a new approach.  We met at the courthouse, marked the case ready, found a conference room on another floor which had a round table (saves the logistics of who sits where).  We did a trunctated initial meeting with client; then Pat and I jointly choreographed where we wanted to go, and then had our initial 4-way.  Two and one-half hours later, we collaboratively worked through the issues of my client not wanting a divorce; how to keep the parties in the house without rancor and conflict; and how to proceed logistically with future meetings and the balance of the divorce process. Pat and I have had a few cases in the past; professionally litigated and ultijmately settled -- we both came out of today with a sense of appreciation for this new process and look forward to settling this case and others.
 
I have enjoyed the art of litigation, but appreciated the peacefulness and personal satisfaction from the results of mediation, and now, collaboration. I am hopeful it will quickly become a substantial, and important, part of my practice.
